Behavioral Counseling

Animals with behavioral problems, especially canines, are subject to aggression and poor control, and are generally the type of animals that are abandoned. Owners of animals with behavioral problems, often try "shock collars", excessive yelling, even hitting their pets to "get the dog to behave." It can be very frustrating for both the owner and the dog. Often Dobermans, Akitas, Rottweilers and Pitt-bulls are raised to be aggressive, or have an aggressive nature. They are more difficult to train and often are in need of behavioral counseling. 

Behavioral counseling for dogs is a way for owners and their pets to bond. It is also helpful in any breeds, especially the breeds mentioned. With all breeds, there is the problem animal. This can begin with puppies. If the owner is aggressive to the puppy, the puppy learns aggressive traits. Therefore, the puppy will be very difficult to train, and have behavioral problems.

The animal behavioral specialist works with both the owner and the animal, and both benefit. The animal behavioral specialist is aware of inner-breeding, and other possible causes of aggression. Sometimes the human environment is part of the cause of animal behavior,and it often is in a negative manner. The specialist works with the owner, in improving their environment, and it affects the dog.

When female dogs go in heat, this can cause aggression. There are hormonal reasons, as well, in male dogs. When strangers are within the dog's "space" this can cause aggression. Dogs are prone to be leaders, and when humans are viewed as a loud and aggressive leader, this can lead to the animal acting in the same manner. behavioral specialists can help and assist with all negative animal behavior.

There are ways to avoid having an animal with behavioral problems. It begins when bringing the puppy home. It must always be remembered that puppies are babies, and must not be punished or yelled at when scolding them. When puppies grown into adult dogs, it is sometimes noted that adult dogs donot develop past the mind of a 3 or 4 year old human child. Therefore, they understand concepts, can be taught very smart reasoning, but must always have a patient and loving human to help the animal learn.

Sometimes, even training with food or kibbles and a loving household does not seem to have an impact on the animal. This is not a time to for the owner to give up. It is a time to seek advice, and often the behavioral counselor will be the answer. Veterinarians can make the diagnosis whether a behavioral counselor will be able to assist the owner, or if there is amedical reason for the aggression. Veterinarians can also assist the owner in finding the right match for a behavioral counselor. 

The owner must remember to not give up on the animal, even though this is easy to do. Help is available. All animals have a loving nature. It takes perseverance, and sometimes a behavioral counselor to make this happen.
