Spaying and Neutering Your Pets

I love puppies, kittens, bunnies, and guinea pigs just to name a few. When I was a kid I was always coming home with another animal that just looked so cute and cuddly. We had a wild mother cat that lived in our back yard. She had kittens and they too were wild. I did manage to catch one and made her my pet. I couldn’t take her in the house because I wasn’t allowed to have any more pets, so I kept her in the garage. I rode my bike up to the local store, bought a litter pan, litter, and food. One day I went out to feed her and she was walking really weird. She kept running into walls and couldn’t walk straight. Her eyes were matted and she was slobbering from her mouth. I ran back into the house and asked my mom if she would pay for me to take the kitten to the vet. Something was definitely wrong. Turns out she had distemper and had to be put down.
Why tell you this story? What I am trying to point out is that there are so many animals that are used to being domesticated, that are now out in the wild on their own. They continue to mate with still domesticated animals then there are unwanted puppies and kittens. Or your indoor cat or dogs mate and thus again are unwanted puppies or kittens. We need to start spaying and neutering our animals.
There are other good reasons for spaying and neutering our cats and dogs. One would be for the males; they would not spray all over the house. They will quiet down and calm down. Females will become more calm and loving and they don’t have to go through the horrid in heat. It is also known that animals which are spayed and or neutered live longer happier lives.
If money is the reason you haven’t spayed or neutered yet, there is help. Contacting your local humane societies can get you some subsidized help. You may say but my cat is an indoor cat. Well all it takes is that door being left open just too long and your cat is gone. Or you may say, but my dog is on a leach. Your dog may be on a leach but that doesn’t mean the dog next door that’s not on a leach can’t get to your dog.
Go Spay and Neuter your pets. It’s not only for your puppies and kittens, it can be for your rabbits, guinea pigs or whatever pet you have that will be around the other sex. It’s good for their health, your piece of mind, and their comfort.
