Dr. Tom Nelson is from Houston, Texas and graduated from veterinary school at Texas A&M University in 1979. At Texas A&M, Dr. Nelson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine, and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Nelson's special interest areas include orthopedic surgeries, oncology, critical care, and exotics.

He enjoys backpacking, scuba diving, cycling, kayaking, and triathlons.  He is a member of the Northeast Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Cancer Society, and is on the board of Companion Animal Parasite Council and the previous president of the American Heartworm Society.


Dr. Nelson is married to Brooke Nelson and has three sons: Drew, Cole, and Graham.
