Dr. Django Martel, who was born and raised in the West Village and attended Stuyvesant High School, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The NYS College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. While Dr. Martel remains a general practitioner, he has a special interest in veterinary dentistry and since 2009 has been training with Dr. Dan Carmichael at Manhattan’s Animal Medical Center for board certification in veterinary dentistry and membership in the American Veterinary Dental College. He also has a special interest in endoscopy and laparoscopy.

Dr. Martel joined the DVM Hospitals Group in 2003. In addition to being a USDA-accredited veterinarian, he is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC, the NY Academy of Science, and the American Animal Hospital Association. He and his wife, Shalini, a surgeon at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, have a son who is delighted by the antics of their two loving ferrets: Arthur and Millie.
