Just like many veterinarians, I grew up with a wide variety of animals around me. My family always had dogs and cats, but my farmer uncle had pigs, cows, ducks, horses, and he took in any other animals in need of care. I had many great influences in my life, but I think the one moment when I realized I wanted to be a veterinarian was when my young Labrador puppy was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. I would have done anything to help her feel better and educate breeders and future owners about the disease. It was devastating watching her illness ultimately shorten her life. It was in those years that I knew I wanted to help animals like my dog, Honey.
I attended Virginia Tech (Go Hokies) from 1995 – 2002 during which time I worked toward my bachelors degree and became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I feel so blessed to get do something I love every day of my life. I don’t think many people can say that about their career choices and I am thankful for the opportunities that lead me down this path.
Upon graduation in 2002, I married by best friend, Adam, who also happens to be a Hokie and a Naval Aviator.  Our lives together have not been boring. I have been fortunate to live in Virginia, Hawaii, California, Rhode Island, and Guam by following him to every home port and working throughout the country. My experiences have been wide and have only allowed me to be a better practitioner as I have learned something in every place we have lived.
While in California our first time, I was happily employed at Lifetime Animal Care Center for three years. Upon our recent return in December 2012, I was afforded the opportunity to work here again. I am so thankful to get to come back to people I can call family. Lifetime is a special place for me that truly is my home away from home.
Adam and I have two dogs that have traveled the world with us, Benjamin (our free hound dog from Blacksburg, VA) and Emma (our Hawaiian princess). Benjamin has been through all of Adam’s deployments with me and continues to be my faithful sidekick at 13 years old. Emma is my “old soul” who is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. Our newest family addition is our two-legged son Tristan who will be two this year. He has added a new dynamic to our family and we are so passionately in love with this little guy.
My hope is that I can continue to help animals and families through their life and have open communication to ensure the best care. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of working with you.
