Stephen Bilbrey(DVM, MS, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons)

Dr. Stephen Bilbrey received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1985, after obtaining a Master of Science degree in immunology.

A member of the Phi Zeta honor society, Dr. Bilbrey was awarded the Maurice Shahan Award for Achievement in Infectious Disease that same year. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Bilbrey completed an internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine at the West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Group—where he received an award as Intern of The Year. Following the completion of a three-year surgical residency at The Ohio State University, Dr. Bilbrey became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1991.

One of the first members of the team, Dr. Bilbrey joined Animal Specialty Group that same year.

Dr. Bilbrey has received awards for academics and teaching, including the Resident Teaching Award at OSU (twice, in 1987 & 1989), and the Clinical Preceptor Teaching Award from Western University in 2010. He has authored numerous scientific papers for veterinary surgery publications, and authored a book chapter for a textbook. His special interests include thoracic, abdominal, oncologic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery.

When he isn’t exploring the world through adventure travel, Dr. Bilbrey can be found working to complete his pilot’s license, with a goal of eventually becoming qualified to fly WWII fighter planes.

He resides in Moorpark with his wife, Mary, also a board-certified veterinary surgeon, and their three golden retrievers and two cats.
